3 Wines for Beginners

Updated: Feb 20, 2023

Wine is well-known for its rich and exotic taste all over the world. It’s a sophisticated drink that you wrap in glittery paper and gift to loved ones on a special occasion, or simply devour in on your couch after an exhausting workday.

But if you’re not an experienced wine connoisseur or are new to wine tasting, it’s easy to get intimidated. However, it’s important for you to understand that developing a taste for wine takes time; it’s anything but impossible!

If you’re new to wine, start your wine tasting journey by trying out these wines for beginners:

1. Prosecco

This unique wine originates from Italy, and is made from a special grape called “Glera.” It’s classified as a sparkling wine, and falls under the white wine category.

This wine is ideal for beginners, because you won’t be overwhelmed by its taste. It has fruity, somewhat sweet, and robust flavors of apples and lemon in it. Prosecco also has zero tannin content and extremely low levels of acidity. It’ll be easy on your stomach and will leave you asking for more!

2. Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir is considered to be the world’s most light-bodied red wine. It’s a splash of fruity, floral, and spicy flavors. Some common flavors include, but are not limited to, cherry, raspberry, and mushroom.

This, too, has low tannin content, and you can enjoy it with a variety of food types, making it an incredibly versatile drink. Its earthy taste is perfect for those who are new to wine, and is ideal for you if you’re looking to try out drier red wine types.

3. Merlot

This delicious velvet-red color wine is popular for its fullness and hue, and has a subtle, yet fruity flavor. The grapes used in merlot have naturally high sugar levels, and for this reason, it has a higher percentage of alcohol to balance out the taste.

Its mild flavors and considerably low tannin content make it the ideal wine for beginners; many choose to blend it with stronger forms of red wines like Cabernet Sauvignon. You might want to try it on its own first if you’re a beginner!
