Updated: Jul 22, 2022

The wine industry suffered terribly amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. However, in 2021 there has been a decline in the COVID-19 cases in the United States Of America. And it’s expected that life will go back to the way it was before the pandemic sooner than later.

One of the places you should consider going to is a winery as soon as things go back to Etiquettes While Visiting a Winery normal. Booking a winery tour with your friends and family is a great way to enjoy post-pandemic.

However, whether you are visiting a winery for recreational purposes or a formal event, you should be mindful of certain etiquettes.

These etiquettes will not only help you have an unforgettable experience at the winery but also make those around you appreciative of your manners.

Here are some dos and don’ts of visiting a winery.

Dos

Use A Spittoon:

It is encouraged to spit out wine in a spittoon once you taste it. Tasting multiple wines without spitting may cloud your judgment, and you will not be able to appreciate the wines you were supposed to taste later on.

Tip The Pourer:

Although some wineries may have a policy against this, tipping the pourer is usually considered a pleasant and appreciative gesture.

Have Something To Eat:

Eat something before you go to a winery for wine tasting. It is easier to get drunk if you drink or test wine on an empty stomach and makes the rest of your tasting tour less enjoyable.

Dress for Convenience:

Dress according to the venue. Wear dark-colored clothes to conceal any spills, and avoid wearing sleeves or clothes that might get stuck in places and cause spills.

Don’ts

Don’t wear a fragrance:

The worst thing to do at a winery is to wear a fragrance. Wine tasting is not just about the taste but also indulges the sense of smell.

Wearing a fragrance will cover the aroma of the different wines in the tasting room. It will also cause inconvenience for other people in the room.

Don’t Be A Know It All:

No one appreciates a know-it. Please don't act like an expert. Discuss your opinions about the wine but do not impose them. Remember that everyone has a different experience and opinion about wines depending on various factors.

Don’t Hold The Glass By The Bowl:

Hold the wine glass by the stem and not the bowl. Holding by the bowl will heat the wine and will compromise its taste. It will also leave fingerprints on the glass.

Keep in mind these basic etiquettes when going to the winery for wine tasting to make the visit more enjoyable for yourself and those around you.
