Eat Your Way Through a Hangover

February 25, 2019

Hangovers are the worst part of having a great night. Your head feels heavy, bright lights are torture, you feel nauseous, and you can’t get out of bed.

We understand the allure of a good bottle of wine. Smooth and full of rich flavor, it’s so easy to have that one extra glass of wine that takes you over the edge!

A hangover may seem difficult to cure, but there are many methods to make it go away. The most beneficial of all them is to eat your way through it. The right foods can make your hangover go away.

Here’s a list of food and drinks that are known to help get over a hangover:

Water

Your number one priority when trying to deal with a hangover is to drink water. It helps with the pounding headache, among many other things. You need to remember that alcohol is a diuretic, meaning it doesn’t let your body retain liquids, making you dehydrated. When there’s no water in your system, your body will look for other sources of water, your brain for e.g., which is why you get a throbbing headache.

Drink a few glasses of water before going to bed after a heavy night. Do the same in the morning.

Sports drinks and coconut water

Sports drinks are generally advised against, but for a hangover, these sugary drinks are perfect! These drinks are packed with electrolytes that help you fuel up and kill a hangover. Coconut water is also known to have the same effect. Coconut water is known to have at least 5 electrolytes that are found in our bodies.

Ginger or Peppermint tea

Tea is used for soothing and relaxing purposes. Herbal teas like ginger and peppermint are known to relieve nausea and motion sickness. Peppermint tea also helps with stomach aches and digestion.

Eggs

This delicious and versatile breakfast staple is known to be a front runner in curing a hangover. They’re packed with amino acids like cysteine and taurine. Taurine kick starts liver functioning and prevents liver disease. Cysteine works on the acetaldehyde that causes headaches.

Chicken noodle soup

Hangover foods don’t have to be tasteless and heavy on your digestive system. A classic chicken and noodle soup works wonders! You’ll also find it most comforting after a heavy night out. Chicken noodle soup refuels your body with the sodium and water levels your need. Chicken is also rich in cysteine that boosts liver functioning.

Oats

Oats are a popular superfood eaten all over the world. They’re known as complex carbs since they are slow to release energy in the body, keeping you full for longer. A hot bowl of oats is a great way to bring down a hangover. It contains nutrients like Vitamin B, calcium, magnesium, and iron. It will also give you the energy to get on with your day and replenish the sugar level in your blood.
