Updated: Sep 11, 2022

We’ve been organizing and conducting wine tours for over 10 years and one question that our clients always ask us is how they can make their wine tour more memorable. To help them out, we’ve compiled a short guide that details how you can more enjoyable.

Without further ado, here’s the secret to an unforgettable wine tour.

Tip #1 – Be Open To Trying New Things

Wine tasting is a deeply personal experience and depends a lot on your likes and dislikes. That being said, one piece of advice that we have for seasoned and first-time wine tasters alike is to be more open minded.

It’s an open secret that most wine enthusiasts have particular preferences and stick to it religiously when wine tasting. This limits their options which can be very detrimental to the wine tasting experience.

So, whether you’re going on your first or fiftieth wine tour, venture out of your comfort zone and let unfamiliar flavors work their magic. Who knows, maybe you’ll discover a new favorite!

Tip #2 – Take Notes:

People rely too much on their memory. Even if they’re absolutely floored by a sample, they refuse to note down the name of the drink which nullifies the point of the wine tour.

Take notes. Doesn’t matter whether you use your diary or your smartphone, as long as you document your feelings about a sample, you can refine your palette and better understand your preferences.

Tip #3 – Savor the Flavor:

While visiting new wineries every day may feel like a great idea at first, don’t overdo it. By visiting too many wineries and trying every sample, you’re bound to forget even the richest of drinks as flavors tend to blend together.

Savor the flavor. Limit the wineries you visit on your next wine tour and give every sample the time and attention that it deserves.

Furthermore, do not to rinse between samples; this gets rid of the flavor which is counterproductive.

Tip #4 – Do Your Research:

Believe it or not, the success or failure of a wine tour depends a lot on the research you put in prior to traveling. There have been countless incidents where people couldn’t enjoy their wine tours simply because their guides knew nothing about the city and couldn’t provide insightful and interesting information.

To ensure that this never happens to you, do your research. Read testimonials and reviews about the company you’re interested in and give this issue the time and attention that it deserves. Follow this advice and you’re almost guaranteed a more memorable wine tour!
